The original dream of the Mid-Century Modern movement was to marry modern living with nature, embrace honest materials, and make use of available technologies. It was an attempt at forward-thinking design focused on simplicity and function. Though the intentions were pure, perhaps the movement was ahead of its time to create a sustainable, efficient home. I believe the time for that Mid-Century Modern dream is now.*
The design for this structure consists of a living space floating within a mass timber frame and is cantilevered over the utility pedestal. This pedestal is the “beating heart” of the home and houses all of the incorporated Sustainable Systems including the PV Battery Bank, Rainwater Harvesting equipment, and Geothermal HVAC.
